Akon Speaks On Slavery: “You Just Got To Let It Go”

R&B legend Akon advises that African Americans should just simply “let it go” in order to “move forward”. During an interview with VladTV, Akon opened up about how the people in his country of Senegal don’t think about slavery as much, saying they’ve overcome it.

“In Senegal, we’ve kind of overcome the thought of slavery, we don’t even think about it,” he said.

Akon has now addressed slavery in America saying that African Americans should let go of slavery. “I think it’s the art of just letting the past go and moving towards the future,” he continued.

“And I think, in the U.S., they have this stigma of just not letting go of the past and blaming the past on every mishap or, you know, disappointment,” he said.

“I think as long as you hold onto that past, there’s a lot of weight that you carry with you everywhere you go.”

Couple of weeks back, Akon defended working with Tekashi 6ix9ine. “I don’t recall losing any [contacts]. If I did, they ain’t tell me,” Akon said. “This is a business. If our personal relationship is affected by our business, then that ain’t no real friendship.”

I feel like, at the end of the day, his side wasn’t really told and it still ain’t really told, but I think it’s more about people understanding why I made this record in the first place,” he added.
