Barack Obama Slams Online Cancel Culture

Barack Obama Says Cancel Culture Isn’t Activism

The issue of cancel culture on social media has been brimming for quite a while which needs to be addressed before it gets out of hand.

Taylor Swift has been a victim of cancel culture after her feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian and she’s aired her opinion on it.

Taylor told Vogue magazine receiving messages like that could be perceived as being told “to kill yourself”.

“When you say someone is cancelled, it’s not a TV show. It’s a human being.”

“I don’t think there are that many people who can actually understand what it’s like to have millions of people hate you very loudly,” Taylor previously addressed the issue.

The former president of the United States, Barack Obama, felt the need to speak of the latter at the recent Obama Foundation Summit making it clear that judgement isn’t activism.

“This idea of purity and you’re never compromised and you’re always politically woke, and all that stuff, you should get over that quickly,” Obama said.

“I do get this sense sometimes among young people and this is accelerated by social media, there is this sense sometimes of the way for me to make change is to be as judgmental as possible about other people and that’s enough… That’s not activism.”
