Teenage Florida Boy Arrested For Robbing A Child At Gunpoint Near Publix

A teen was arrested for allegedly robbing a child at gunpoint near a Publix in Bonita Springs. According to Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), deputies responded to a call about an armed robbery on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

They learned the victim was a child who was robbed on his walk to a nearby Publix on South West Bonita Beach Road.

The victim said he was given permission to go to the store to deposit some money on a gift card to buy some shoes online. On his walk, the victim saw a white SUV heading north on Luke Street and made a sudden U-turn on Bennet Lane to stop beside him.

The victim said he was on the phone and hung up because he thought the suspect was asking for directions. The victim also told deputies he was waved closer by Luke Varga, 17, through the passenger side window.

Once he got closer, the victim said Varga pulled out a small black handgun and demanded all of his cash. Out of fear of being shot, the victim handed over all of his money and ran home to tell his mom he was robbed.

After calling LCSO and identifying Varga, deputies were able to track him back to his home. Deputies charged Varga with robbery with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and violation of a risk protection order.

Luke Varga is currently being held with a $36,500 bond.
