Middle School Girl Steals Over $10,000 From Grandparents & Passes It Out To Classmates

A 14-year-old middle schooler is being accused of stealing more than $10,000 from her grandparents and passing it out to other students.

According to an arrest report, Marion County deputies responded to Lake Weir Middle School on Thursday, after receiving reports that a student was handing out “significant amounts of money” to other children.

Investigators were able to determine that the girl had broken into her grandmother’s home safe and stolen approximately $13,500 of the woman’s life savings.

School officials sent a message to parents informing them about the incident. And they are working to recover this money for the grandparents.

“If you speak with your children and if they have received money from the student, please turn it in to our school resource officers,” officials said.

As of Friday, officials have recovered and returned about $700 of the money that had been handed out.

No word on why the child decided to steal the savings and give it away at this time.
