R. Kelly Sues Brooklyn Prison For Cruel & Unusual Punishment Over Suicide Watch
R. Kelly Sues Brooklyn Prison For Cruel & Unusual Punishment After They Put Him On Suicide Watch Against His Wish
R. Kelly is suing the Brooklyn prison he’s in for “cruel and unusual punishment” after they forced him to go into suicide watch after he was sentenced to 30 years behind bars, even though he said he wasn’t suicidal.
According to Kelly, his 8th amendment right is being taken away inside the prison.
He believes they’re only isolating him with a suicide watch because he’s a celebrity. He claims that he’s not suicidal at all and expressed it many times to the MDC.

Kelly says he’s been placed in a single cell without bed rails, no showers, no shaving, no toilet paper, being forced to eat meals with his hands, and being shut off from loved ones. Kelly also says inmates on suicide watch don’t even receive the proper psychiatric care.
Kelly is suing for emotional distress.
“Mr. Kelly was placed on suicide watch for purely punitive reasons in violation of his Eighth Amendment rights,” Jennifer Bonjean told Fox News Digital. “MDC has a policy of placing high profile individuals under the harsh conditions of suicide watch whether they are suicidal or not.
Kelly’s attorneys called the suicidal watch placement “illegal.” “We are in the process of filing an emergency rule to show cause with the courts,” the statement read. “MDC Brooklyn’s confinement of Mr. Kelly to suicide watch is illegal, and they will be held accountable for it.
