13-Year-Old Boy Charged After Fatally Shooting 14-Year Old Girl While Playing With Gun
A 13-year-old boy was charged Monday after prosecutors say he fatally shot a 14-year-old girl.
On July 10, 2022, at around 4:11 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Riverfront Drive for a reported shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers located the victim inside the apartment, suffering from gunshot wounds. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

It is alleged that as a handgun was being passed around, the suspect pointed and fired the handgun, fatally wounding Kaniyah (pictured above), before fleeing the scene. Police believe the shooting was accidental.
The teen has been charged with one count of Manslaughter – Aimed with Intent but without Malice and one count of Felony Firearm.
He was given a $10,000 cash bond.
