Florida Fifth Grader Arrested For Mass Shooting Threat

Florida 5th Grader Arrested For Mass Shooting Threat

A ten-year-old boy was arrested Saturday for threatening to carry out a mass shooting at his school.

Authorities say the boy sent the threatening text messages and arrested him after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office School Threat Enforcement team received a tip about the threats.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement that his team didn’t hesitate to look into the threat. Investigators added that the boy is a student at Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral.

“Right now is not the time to act like a little delinquent. It’s not funny. This child made a fake threat, and now he’s experiencing real consequences.

This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas. Making sure our children are safe is paramount. We will have law and order in our schools! My team didn’t hesitate one second…NOT ONE SECOND, to investigate this threat.”

The boy was interviewed by detectives and said they discovered a probable cause for him the false threat.

People who responded to news of the arrest believe officers were too harsh in their approach. However, others argued that it was important to respond quickly due to the lack of apparent police response to the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
