Willow Smith Says She Had To Forgive Mom Jada Pinkett Smith For Dismissing Her Anxiety Battle

Willow Smith has spoken out about learning to forgive her mother, Jada Pinkett-Smith, for dismissing her struggle with anxiety.

The Psychofreak singer made the comment in a recent episode of Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk, where she appeared alongside Ireland Baldwin, daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, as they discussed how the disorder plagued their lives from an early age.

During a one-to-one segment with Ireland on the show, the pair were both vocal about how their mental health had taken a toll over the pressure that came with being the child of celebrity parents.

At this point, Willow shared that her mother often brushed her anxiety to the side, which was hard for the 21-year-old, admitting that it was only “really recently” when she forgave Jada for overlooking the issue.

“Whew. It was rough,” she recalled. “I feel like when I was growing up; she didn’t understand my anxiety. Cause she, growing up, had seen her friends die. She had been through so much stuff that my issues to her kind of felt, like…” before Ireland interrupted, saying, “Smaller.” Willow continued, “And that was very frustrating for me as a child, because I was like, ‘How can you not see my internal and emotional struggle?’”

Willow expressed that it was only not too long ago when she had a heart-to-heart with Jada, where the latter apologized for not taking the matter seriously when Willow had first approached her about it.

“And she was pushing it down and pushing it down for so many years, like, she had no idea. So, I kind of had to forgive her a little bit for being like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get it, but it’s really not that bad.’”
