Mother Who Was Caught On Camera Dumping Newborn In Dumpster Pleads Not Guilty

Alexis Avila, 18, who authorities say confessed to abandoning her newborn boy in a dumpster behind a mall in Hobbs on Friday, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of attempted first-degree murder and child abuse, KCBD reported.

A judge ruled Avila, to stay under house arrest until her trial date. She’s also authorized to wear an ankle monitor, banned from using social media and cannot be around any kids under the age of 10.

“If you go somewhere, I’ll be notified and you’ll go straight to jail,” Lea County Judge William Shoobridge expressed to Avila during her arraignment.

As we previously reported, Shocking surveillance footage captured the moment a teenage mother tossed her newborn into a dumpster in New Mexico — only for the newborn to be found alive later that day by three people digging through the trash, according to a report.

Avila was seen at the dumpster on Friday, grabbing a black trash bag out of the back seat and throwing it into the container, according to criminal documents collected by The Post.

After the baby was found by strangers, the woman rapidly wraps up the newborn and carries the baby to a car as a man apparently contacts authorities, the outlet reported.
