Mcdonald’s Ceo On Blast For Allegedly Sending Racist Text Message About Murdered Teenagers

Mcdonald’s Ceo On Blast For Allegedly Sending Racist Text Message About Murdered Teenagers

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski is being blasted for a text message he sent to Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot about shootings in the city and murdered teens.

Protests have sparked since the text messages became public, and many are labeling it as ignorant and racist.

“p.s. tragic shootings last week, both at our restaurant yesterday and with Adam Toldeo [sic]. With both, the parents failed those kids which I know is something you can’t say. Even harder to fix,” he said, per WBEZ Chicago.

The text came after Lightfoot went to McDonald’s headquarters following the death of Jaslyn Adams, 7, who was murdered outside a Chicago  McDonald’s, and Adam Toledo, 13, who was fatally shot by police in a different incident.

“As the Mayor has said previously, families do everything they can — moms, dads, grandparents — to love and support their children, and tragedies can still happen. Victim shaming has no place in this conversation,” a rep for Lightfoot said to The Post.

Kempczinski admitted to his staff that the note to the mayor was wrong,

“In the text exchange, I thanked Mayor Lightfoot for the visit and reflected on our conversation about the recent tragedies, commenting that ‘the parents failed those kids,’” he said. “When I wrote this, I was thinking through my lens as a parent and reacted viscerally. But I have not walked in the shoes of Adam’s or Jaslyn’s family and so many others who are facing a very different reality.”

Protests continued late Wednesday as employees fought against the alleged racist culture at Mcdonald’s.
