R Kelly Reportedly Wants To Sell His Music Catalog
Disgraced R&B singer R Kelly, is reportedly struggling to sell his music catalog.
The singer used to be one of the most sought-after artists in the world — now he’s on trial for child pornography charges and is trying to sell his catalog to make money.
“It has been offered to me a number of times by his team, and of course, I’ve said no for the obvious reasons,” Merck Mercuriadis, Hipgnosis Songs Fund founder and CEO of The Family (Music) Ltd said to Billboard.
“There are incredible songs in that catalog,” he adds. “but why would you take that kind of risk?”
R. Kelly has been claiming he is broke since 2019. Before his trial began, Kelly’s lawyer Devereaux Cannick, told Judge Ann Donnelly, ”His finances are depleted,” and asked the court for daily copies of the transcripts. He says Kelly cannot afford to pay for them.
Cannick also said his client “gained weight since he’s been incarcerated.”
“We need measurements for appropriate attire for his trial,” Cannick said. “We’re trying to get his measurements. How can we take his size?”
