Akademiks Thinks Megan Thee Stallion Is Hyped For Not Selling Up To 150K

Akademiks Thinks Megan Thee Stallion Is Hyped For Not Selling Up To 150K

Megan Thee Stallion released her debut studio album ‘Good News’ last week, a follow up to an EP she released earlier this year titled ‘SUGA’. The Houston rapper is currently having a great year regardless of some messy moments.

Meg was the big winner at the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards, collecting awards in three categories. The rapper took home the hip-hop artist of the year, best collaboration and hustler of the year awards.

However, she won’t be able to debut at the number one spot, a position occupied by the gargantuan presence of K-Pop titan BTS and their new album Be (which moved 256k units).

Megan pulled in 92k, with 10k of which coming from traditional sales. This latest release doubles the first-week sales of her previous project Suga, which moved 41k units when it dropped in March.

According to DJ Akademiks, Megan’s first week sales doesn’t reflect the amount of hype she gets. The blogger took to Twitter to share his thoughts on her album sales.

“Meg Thee Stallion is the biggest star in a while that don’t sell well.. idk what it is.. idk if her hype is purely Instagram / shade room crowd or it’s just all the industry behind her,” AK tweeted. “But them album sales never reflect the fan base id expect her to have with that hype.. weird.”

A fan then commented saying: “I mean I’m not a Meg fan but how is 92k “not selling well”? It’s not the greatest but that’s still pretty good sales,”

AK wasted no time in elaborating further, “Nigga she got every award for being the biggest rapper or best rapper on the planet for the last year. All the other nominees outsell her by 2x .. it’s just a lil interesting . For her hype anything below 150k is pretty low..” he replied.
