Dwayne Wade’s Son Transitioning From Zion To Zaya

NBA star Dwyane Wade’s 12 year old son is transitioning, from a male to a female. The boy, who was named Zion at birth, now goes by the name Zaya.

Dwyane Wade, 38, spoke candidly in a new interview with Ellen DeGeneres, which iwill air later today. In the interview, he discusses being a father to Zaya (formerly Zion).

The NBA baller revealed to Ellen that he reached out to the cast of Pose for help with addressing the situation.

Dwayne, who shares Zaya with his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches, explained how he and his new wife Gabrielle Union had to educate themselves about the LGBTQ community and said they are ‘proud parents and allies’ of the child.

Dwayne told the NBC chat show host: ‘First of all, me and my wife Gabrielle, we are proud parents of a child in the LGBTQ+ community and we are proud allies as well.”

‘Once Zaya, our 12-year-old, came home… first, Zion. I don’t know if everyone knows, originally named Zion. Zion, born as a boy, came home and said, “Hey, so I want to talk to you guys.. I think going forward, I’m ready to live my truth. And I want to be referenced as she and her. I’d love for you guys to call me Zaya”‘.
