Fat Joe Asserts All Music Is Black & Caribbean Latinos Are Black Too

Fat Joe Claims That All Music Is Black And Caribbean Latinos Are Also Black

It’s been a longtime debate on whether Latinos in the Caribbean are Black or not. Cardi B who is one of the most visible faces for Afro-Latinas and dominicanas in the mainstream has defended her Black heritage several time.
In the past, Cardi has responded to claims she’s not from the black heritage because she speaks Spanish. She has insisted that she sees herself as black on more than one occasion.

New York Rapper Fat Joe who is also a descendant of Cuban and Puerto Rican appeared on Hot 97 where he discussed the controversial topic with Ebro Darden.
Ebro Darden shared a short clip from the conversation which began with Joe emphasizing  that “all music is African” and that he’s been in tune with Afro-beats throughout his career.
The discussion soon shifted from music to ‘the are-Caribbean-Latinos-black’ dialogue, in which Joe stated that the answer is yes. “All the music is African, but you right, even in Puerto Rico when you go to the Caribbean, alright, let’s speak about Latinos not being black.
“Latinos are black. In Cuba, at one time, there was eight million Cubans. Five million, unfortunately, were slaves. Three million were actual Cubans, and the integrated and had babies. Same thing with Puerto Rico when you go to Loíza,” Fat Joe explained.
“You talk about Santeria, that came from the motherland Africa. Sometimes, Latinos may even identify themselves with African and black culture more than black people. This ain’t no crazy thing. Fat Joe ain’t on crack. He know what he talkin’ ’bout,” he added.
