Billie Eilish Dethrones Lil Nas X ‘Old Town Road’ On Hot 100

Lil Nas X hit song ‘Old Town Road’ became the longest running No. 1 Hip Hop song of all time after breaking Mariah Carey’s longtime record by sitting at the top consecutively for 19 weeks.
Mariah Carey acknowledged Lil Nas X’ achievement by sending a congratulatory message to him which he happily responded to.

But now, tables have turned and Lil Nas X has lost the No. 1 spot to 17 year old Billie Eilish. ‘Bad Guy’ by Billie Eilish is now at the top of Billboard Hot 100 with Lil Nas X’ ‘Old Town Road’ been demoted to No. 3, sitting under Camila Cabello and her boo, Shawn Mendes’ steamy “Senorita”.

Lil Nas X also congratulated Billie Eilish both on his twitter and instagram page.

LNX later took to twitter to express his feelings after losing the #1 spot.. Making quite a fun of it. He made use of a SpongeBob meme to joke that Columbia Records would drop him from the label for slipping down the charts.

However, considering the lofty sum that LNX likely signed for when Columbia saw his song skyrocketing, one could guess that he won’t be begging for money like Squidward anytime soon. His social media savviness will also surely contribute to keeping him afloat.

Lil Nas X have other hits at hand with “Panini” and the Cardi B-assisted “Rodeo”. Music videos for both of them have been teased, but it seems Lil Nas X and his label are still feeling out which single would have more potential before releasing the first one.

As of now, “Panini” sits at #36 (peaked at #16) and “Rodeo” at #95 (peaked at #22).

“[Potentially being a one hit wonder] is literally told to me at every second at this point, and it’s crazy. It’s expected though ’cause the type of songs that I’ve made and then they’ll go back to listen to my older songs. I expect that and I welcome that,” said Lil Nas in April.

“I know. It’s not a doubt in my mind that I’m not going to be a one hit wonder. I know big things [are] coming. It’s gonna be great.”
